Empowering a More Accurate Worldview

We are fighting an onslaught of negativity and misinformation in the news. It is inescapable and has a powerful impact on our worldview, mindset and behaviour. We must develop the necessary skills to stand guard at the doors of our own minds. Our individual wellbeing - and wellbeing of the world - depends on it.

IF I DON’T READ THE NEWS, I’M UNINFORMED. IF I READ THE NEWS, I’M MISINFORMED
Mark Twain
What is News Literacy?
News literacy, it is the process of developing the skills to be able to read the news, to think critically about it and successfully navigate it so that we get to a place where we are reliably informed about the world and feel empowered to act on that information.
Why News Literacy Lab?
Becuase news literacy is more than fake news. News Literacy Lab will explore the impact of solutions journalism as an antidote to the misrepresentation created by the negativity bias. It will help us understand our internal biases and how they manipulate information, so we can better protect ourselves from the distortions they create. By having this three-pillared approach of Truth, Balance and Cognition, we will create more scope for the application of news literacy to create effective change.
